Case 2 Company Spin-out - Medical Devices/Nanotechnology

- Back to Case Studies

CSTC’s Dr Karl Heeks was commissioned by the directors of one of Europe’s largest government laboratories to commercialise a novel technology for use in medical device applications. After assessing the technology he advised on a different approach utilising novel nanostructure architecture. A worldwide patent was applied for with Karl and several senior scientists from the laboratories as named inventors. There was considerable interest in this new approach from the directors and a new company was formed to commercialise the technology. Karl led this process and successfully obtained first round financing from an evergreen venture capital fund.
